The University of Southern Queensland (USQ) is a fairly typical Australian regional university. It is comparable to CQUniversity and James Cook University in Queensland, which respectively serve the central and northern parts of this geographically massive state. Universities in other states that serve similar roles include Charles Sturt University in NSW, Federation University in Victoria, and the University of Tasmania.
Students can access various campuses or study online for many degrees. Entry standards are modest, avoiding the high ATAR cutoffs associated with prestigious inner-city universities that cater to top students. Depending on the degree, required ATARs are generally between the high 50s and mid 60s.
Like other regional universities, USQ (or UniSQ, as it's also known) is a jack-of-all-trades. It caters to a variety of students, offers multiple study modes, and covers most popular study fields. As a research institution, it is well regarded but doesn't rank among the elite Australian universities.
